Project Swarm Blog

This is a blog where I record my progress on Project Swarm! Project Swarm is a rouge-lite bullet hell inspired by games like Vampire Survivors. Currently I'm working on it with a few friends as the game designer and programmer with the goal of trying to release our first game collectively as a team of friends! My goal with this blog is too try and share significant progress on the game and hopefully share some of the thought process that goes into it.

1st Update! 1/7/2024

Welcome to the first update! The game has currently been in development for a couple months and our current strategy is working towards certain programming milestones before me and the team collectively look over the project to give feedback and brainstorm what would be fun to include. Currently we're working towards the goal of having all the primary features that Vampire Survivors has so that we can then decide how we'd like to take our own twist on the bullet hell rouge-lite genre.

Currently our game includes:

  • Endlessly spawning enemies

  • Different sets of enemies that swap in after in-game time milestones

  • 6 weapons with 5 upgrade tiers

  • 5 Gadgets (Passive bonuses) with 5 upgrade tiers

  • Different characters with unique level passives

Currently we're working on refactoring our code as we continue to add new systems and expand upon the project. As we continue to work on the game and revamp systems I'll be able to go into more depth regarding the specific features that get worked on and the features mentioned above.
